Atalanta eyeing move for Everton striker Beto

Atalanta are stepping up their pursuit of a new striker following the departure of Mateo Retegui, who recently completed a high-profile move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah for a reported fee of €65 million.

The Serie A club are now actively searching for a suitable replacement, and among the names being considered is Everton forward Beto.

According to edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, via TMW, Beto is one of several potential candidates currently on Atalanta’s shortlist, alongside Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori and Red Bull Salzburg’s Adam Daghim.

Beto, a 27-year-old striker with international experience for Guinea-Bissau, joined Premier League side Everton in August 2023 on a four-year contract. His transfer from Udinese reportedly cost the English club around €30 million.

Since arriving at Goodison Park, Beto has made 71 appearances across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing 2 assists. In the 2024/25 season alone, he scored eight goals in 30 Premier League games, with two additional goals coming in domestic cup matches including the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

The former Udinese striker is already well known to Serie A fans, having spent two productive seasons in Italy before his move to England. His time in Serie A showed his ability to handle the tactical demands of Italian football, and a return to Italy could be a strategic fit both for the player and for Atalanta, who are known for integrating physically strong and tactically adaptable forwards into their setup.

Beyond his club performances, Beto has also featured on the international stage, earning four caps and scoring once for the Guinea-Bissau national team. While not the most prolific international record, it adds another layer to his experience and maturity on the pitch.

Atalanta’s shortlist includes other strong candidates as well. Giacomo Raspadori offers a different profile with more technical finesse and domestic experience in Italy’s top flight, while Adam Daghim is seen as a high-potential forward developing at Salzburg.

However, Beto’s blend of top-league experience, previous Serie A familiarity, and goal-scoring consistency makes him a standout option.

With Atalanta aiming to stay competitive both domestically and in Europe, securing a reliable striker is a priority following Retegui’s departure. The Bergamo-based club has a track record of smart transfer market moves, and their interest in Beto aligns with their strategy of acquiring powerful, versatile forwards who can adapt quickly to Atalanta’s high-pressing and fluid attacking system. While negotiations have yet to reach an advanced stage, the presence of Beto on Atalanta’s radar highlights the seriousness of their search for a proven replacement. His profile fits the mold of what the club typically looks for: athleticism, Serie A experience, and a strong work ethic.

All eyes will now be on how Everton respond if formal interest from Italy begins to take shape.
