Josip Ilicic has joined Fiorentina from Palermo for a fee in the region of 9 million euros in July 2013. The 29 year-old has a valid contract with Fiorentina until June 2018.
Since his arrival from Palermo, Josip Ilicic has scored 36 goals and provided 19 assists in 137 games for Fiorentina, including five goals and provided five assists in 35 games in all competitions this season.
The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best attacking midfielders in Slovenia.
Josip Ilicic has represented Slovenia at Under-21 level, winning five caps, before making his senior international debut in August 2010. As a member of Slovenia national football team, Ilicic has won 43 caps and has scored two goals.
The Slovenia international is a player who has impressed many Serie A clubs in the last few seasons, and it is understood that Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini would prefer playing him as a attacking midfielder.
Euro Football Rumours understood that Fiorentina are likely to want to cash in on the Slovenia international before he can leave on a free transfer at the end of the 2017/2018 season.
How strong that interest is and whether Atalanta will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
