Tottenham frontrunners to land Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo
The Spurs reportedly want to add more quality on the flanks.
It’s claimed by British media that Tottenham Hotspur are frontrunners to land Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo.
The Italy international joined Roma from Inter Milan for a fee in the region of 4.5 million euros in July 2018. His contract expires in the summer of 2024.
The winger has featured in 14 matches this term, netting 2 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions.
He has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Italy. The 23-year-old has also represented the Italy at various youth levels before going on to secure 11 senior caps for his country thus far.
The winger’s contract at Roma is about to expire in 19 months and a number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, with Tottenham showing the most concrete interest in an attempt to lure the player to their team.
Antonio Conte has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe. Conte is a long term admirer of Zaniolo and believes he can get the most out of the Italy international.
The former Inter Milan man has the talent to play many roles in attack. His tricky dribbling, fantastic shot and pace make him a nightmare for any defender to defend.
According to the report, “Tottenham are once again being tipped to make a January move for a Serie A forward that sporting director Fabio Paratici is a huge fan of. Spurs are expected to be active in the January transfer window, as they look to add more quality to Antonio Conte’s squad to help bolster the club’s top-four hopes and their ambitions of getting past AC Milan in the Champions League last 16. One such target, who has been on Paratici’s radar for some time, is Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo. The forward’s current deal in Rome expires in the summer of 2024. And there remains concern in the Italian capital that Zaniolo could look to run his contract down. Tottenham are known to have made an offer to Roma previously. However, that was knocked back as the Serie A giants wanted money up front and not at a later date, as proposed by Daniel Levy. Paratici is said to view Zaniolo as someone who would play off Tottenham talisman Harry Kane really well. However, where that leaves the likes of Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison remains to be seen – unless Conte decides to change formation.”
Euro Football Rumours
The Yellow and Reds are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the winger, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.
Tottenham have to fork out a huge transfer fee if they are genuinely interested in the Italy international.
Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
All in all, Nicolo Zaniolo will be an ideal choice for Conte as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his attackers.
It will be interesting to see whether Tottenham will make their move during the winter transfer window.
