Over the past couple of weeks, there has been intense speculation over the future of Darwin Nunez at Almeria.
The reports in England suggested that Sheffield United are pushing to sign Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguay international was signed by Almeria in August 2019 from Peñarol. The 21-year-old has a contract until 2024 with the club.
The striker has featured in 32 matches for Almeria this term, netting 16 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions.
The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Uruguay.
Nunez has represented Uruguay at Under-20 level, winning 14 caps and scoring 4 goals, before making his senior international debut in October 2019. As a member of Uruguay national football team, Nunez won one cap and he scored one goal.
His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Sheffield United.
Chris Wilder needs to tighten up his attack and a striker would be a welcome addition. He has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
The Uruguay international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of striker Wilder wants to target in the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old provides a unique blend between a classic center-forward and the modern striker. He would provide a good variety to Sheffield United’s attack.
According to the report, “Sheffield United are entering the race to sign Almeria striker Darwin Nunez. He was first linked with a move to Brighton. But now it appears they have competition from their Premier League rivals. Almeira signed him for £7 million from Penarol last term, and now want double that figure, per talkSPORT. Both Sheffield United and Brighton want greater firepower next season as they attempt to solidify themselves as regular Premier League clubs.”

Almeria are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the striker, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.
Good signing for Sheffield United?
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
As for the player, Sheffield could be a great place for him to grow as a footballer. They will be able to provide him with regular first-team football and he will be coached by a very good manager like Chris Wilder.
This transfer could turn out to be a bargain as the market for strikers is inflated at the moment.
The ball is in Sheffield United’s court and they need to take a decision on signing Nunez.
It will be interesting to see if Sheffield United can beat their rivals to the striker’s signature.
