Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in advanced negotiations with Manchester United

midfielder Kevin Strootman has emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are looking set to land Kevin Strootman after Holland Media revealed that they are in advanced negotiations with Roma ahead of a potential move this summer.

Kevin Strootman has joined AS Roma from PSV Eindhoven for a fee in the region of 14.5 million euros in July 2013. The 27 year-old has a valid contract with AS Roma until June 2018.

Since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven, Kevin Strootman has scored ten goals and provided 14 assists in 76 games for AS Roma, including four goals and provided four assists in 35 games in all competition this season.

Kevin Strootman has also represented Netherlands at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 19 caps across all age groups and scoring two goals. Since February 2011, Strootman is a member of Netherlands national football team, winning 32 caps and scoring three goals.

The Netherlands international has been a target of José Mourinho as the manager looks to bolster his midfield options for the next season.

Euro Football Rumours were informed that Manchester United are preparing the offer in the region of 41 million euros for his services and that the only problem at this moment is Kevin Strootman recovery from the knee injury.
