Newcastle United are on the hunt for a striker, and Raul de Tomas is a player who is thought to be on their radar.

According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Newcastle United are linked with surprise move for Raul de Tomas.

Espanyol spent 22.5 million euros to sign the Spain international from Benfica in the winter of 2020. The 27-year-old has four years left on his current contract which expires in 2026.

The 27-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Spain. De Tomas has earned four senior caps for the Spain national team but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.

His impressive performances last season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

The Magpies have earmarked Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas as their target, with Eddie Howe being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player. Howe has been impressed by his performances last season and could make a move this summer.

Newcastle are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

According to the report, “Newcastle United are eyeing Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas. The Spain international is open to leaving Espanyol this summer, though won’t push for a move away. Local journalist Matteo Moretto reports Newcastle are keen on bringing De Tomas to England. It’s suggested Newcastle will seek to do business for around €35m. Espanyol are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the striker, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal. They will be ready to part ways with the striker should the right offer arrives.

Good signing for Newcastle United?

The 27-year-old Spain international could be a very good squad player for Eddie Howe over the next few years. He is at the peak of his career right now and Howe could bring out the best in him.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Newcastle.

How strong that interest is and whether Newcastle United will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
