The Magpies are reportedly keeping a close eye on many goalkeepers across the Europe.
It’s claimed by Italian media that Newcastle are linked with Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
The Poland international joined Juventus from Arsenal for a fee in the region of 18 million euros in July 2017. His contract expires in the summer of 2024.
Since his arrival from Arsenal, Szczesny has conceded 169 goals and provided 72 clean sheets in 184 games.
The 32-year-old is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in Poland. As a member of Poland national football team, Szczesny won 66 caps.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Newcastle.
Eddie Howe is eager to add a goalkeeper to the squad. He wants an experienced player that can be a leader on and off the pitch for him.
The report claims that Newcastle manager has extensively scouted Wojciech Szczesny and is considering a move for the goalkeeper.
Newcastle are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Arsenal man has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report, “Newcastle are eyeing Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Reports from Italy believe the Magpies are one of a number of clubs ready to make an offer if Juventus decide to cash in on Szczesny. The 32-year-old has 18 months left to run on his contract in Turin, and Juve would prefer to bring in a transfer fee next summer rather than lose him for free the following year, says The Sun. The Poland international has been with the Bianconeri for five years following his departure from the Gunners. Newcastle currently count on summer signing Nick Pope as their No1.”
Euro Football Rumours
It would take a huge offer from Newcastle to prise the 32-year-old goalkeeper from Juventus.
The Italian giants will be ready to part ways with the goalkeeper should the right offer arrives.
Good signing for Newcastle?
If Newcastle and Eddie Howe are seriously considering a goalkeeper, Szczesny could also prove to be a smart option.
Wojciech Szczesny has all the skillset required to be a success story at Newcastle. Therefore, it makes sense for Eddie Howe to step up his attempts to bring the Poland goalkeeper to Premier League side.
How strong that interest is and whether Newcastle will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
