Manchester United will look to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen

The Red Devils are keeping tabs on several strikers across Europe, with one of them being Victor Osimhen.

According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Manchester United will look to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The Nigeria international joined Napoli from Lille in September 2020. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Osimhen has managed 3 goal contributions across all competition in the ongoing campaign.

The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Nigeria. His record for Nigeria is impressive. Osimhen has scored 15 goals in 23 matches for Nigeria at senior level.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including United.

Erik ten Hag wants to sign a new striker and Victor Osimhen is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He is a long term admirer of Osimhen and believes he can get the most out of the Nigeria international.

The Red Devils are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The former Lille man provides a unique blend between a classic center-forward and the modern striker. His versatile nature can help the manager to be more flexible with the formations.

According to the report, “Man Utd will attempt to sign Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen in January with a report citing a nine-figure demand. The Nigeria international, 23, continues to be the subject of links over a move to the Premier League. Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for a club-record €70m (approx. £60m) fee. The final tally could reportedly hit around £68m if all add-ons are met. Osimhen has operated at just under a goal every other game since his debut in Naples. However, his all-action style presents opposition defences with more problems than just his goal threat. He was reportedly involved in a blockbuster swap plan involving Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer. The idea was the brainchild of agent Jorge Mendes and would’ve seen Ronaldo’s Champions League demand satisfied at Napoli. However, the Serie A side’s lofty demands stopped the potential move dead in its tracks. A separate transfer not involving Ronaldo touted in August was also scuppered when his agent revealed Osimhen wanted UCL football. However, not to be deterred, the Manchester Evening News report United ‘will revive their interest’ in Osimhen in the January window.”

The Italian giants are reluctant to let Osimhen go, but a big enough bid could persuade them to sell.

It would take a huge offer from Manchester United to prise the 23-year-old striker from Napoli.

Good signing for Manchester United?

Undoubtedly, he would be a fantastic recruit for Manchester United.

A striker of Victor Osimhen’s ceiling will be a massive addition to United squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Ten Hag’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his attacking department.

Manchester United fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Manchester United come calling for Osimhen this winter.
