Manchester United will look to sign Hakan Calhanoglu

The Red Devils are reportedly one of many clubs keeping tabs on Turkey international Hakan Calhanoglu.

According to the football transfer rumours in Italian and British media, Manchester United will look to sign Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

The 28-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

The Turkey international joined AC Milan from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee in the region of 23.3 million euros in July 2017. His contract expires in the summer of 2021.

The midfielder has banged in 4 goals and provided 4 assists in 8 matches for Milan this term on all fronts.

The 28-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Turkey.

Calhanoglu has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 11 goals in 50 senior appearances for the Turkey national team.

The midfielder has just 8 months left on his deal and he is yet to sign a new contract. The Turkey international has openly expressed his desire to play at a higher level. This gives an indication that Calhanoglu probably won’t commit his future at the club.

The 28-year-old will be high in demand this winter, with him having enjoyed a sublime season for Milan this term.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær needs to tighten up his midfield and the Turkey international would be a welcome addition.

Hakan Calhanoglu is a long-term target of United and could be a decent addition for Solskjær’s side.

His arrival would give United some much needed tactical flexibility.

According to the report, “Manchester United are reportedly willing to offer a five-year contract to midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu after he snubbed AC Milan’s first offer of an extension. Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Turkey international has reached a ‘bottleneck’ over his future in Italy. Indeed Calhanoglu has entered the final year of his contract and so far, he is reportedly unlikely to extend his terms. Milan have offered him a proposal worth €3million (£2.7million) per season to stay in Serie A. However, the 26-year-old currently earns €2.5million (£2.2million) and wants more from his club. What’s more, he feels that he deserves a more lucrative contract after playing a key role under Stefano Pioli. Since the Milan head coach took over in October last year, he has only missed three Serie A games, notching eight goals and 11 assists in the top flight. As such, Gazzetta dello Sport notes that these performances are the most ‘obvious sign’ that he deserves a better upgrade. However, with the latest derisory offer from Milan, negotiations with his club have hit a stalemate. As such, United have stepped in and are now willing to offer him a contract.”

The Red Devils will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Calhanoglu to join the club.

Good signing for Manchester United?

Undoubtedly he would be a fantastic recruit for Manchester.

The Premier League side need to add more depth to their midfield and the 28-year-old would be a good signing.

Hakan Calhanoglu has all the skillset required to be a success story at Manchester United. Therefore, it makes sense for Solskjær to step up his attempts to bring the Turkey midfielder to Premier League side.

Whether he will join Manchester United or not remains to be seen.
