Jose Gimenez has joined Atletico Madrid from Danubio FC for a fee in the region of 900,000 euros in July 2013. The 22 year-old has a valid contract with Atletico Madrid until June 2018.
Since his arrival from Danubio FC, Jose Gimenez has scored four goals and provided five assists in 87 games for Atletico Madrid, including one goal and one assist in 19 games in all competitions this season.
The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Uruguay.
Jose Gimenez has represented Uruguay at Under-20 level, winning nine caps, before making his senior international debut in September 2013. As a member of Uruguay national football team, Gimenez has won 31 caps and scored three goals.
The Uruguay international is a player who has impressed many European Clubs in the last few seasons, and it is understood that Manchester United manager José Mourinho would prefer playing him as a centre-back.
How strong that interest is and whether Manchester United will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
