Manchester United target Ismaila Sarr

It’s no secret that Manchester United are interested in Ismaila Sarr. But who isn’t?

Manchester United are targeting Watford winger Ismaila Sarr, according to the football transfer rumours in British media.

The Senegal international was signed by Watford in August 2019 from Rennes for a fee of 30 million euros. The 23-year-old has a contract until 2024 with the club.

This season, Sarr has scored 9 goals and provided 9 assists in 34 appearances for Watford.

The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best wingers in Senegal.

Ismaila Sarr has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 5 goals in 32 senior appearances for the Senegal national team.

His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Manchester United.

Adding a winger remains United’s top priority this summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.

Solskjaer has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe. He is a long term admirer of Sarr and believes he can get the most out of the Senegal international.

The Red Devils are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The Senegal international will offer the United boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

According to the report, “Manchester United remain interested in Watford winger Ismaila Sarr. The Daily Express says United could target Sarr as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho if they succeed in signing Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window. Borussia Dortmund would be likely to demand at least £100m for either Sancho or Haaland – meaning Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wouldn’t be able to bring both to the Premier League giants. United still need to solve a problem position on the right side of their attack – and if they land Haaland, they are unlikely to be able to afford Sancho as well. And that scenario could see them to back in for Watford winger Sarr – after the Championship club’s former technical director said the two clubs were close to a deal last summer. The Hornets were open to selling Sarr following their relegation to the Championship, but wanted £40m for the wideman – and the deal nearly happened.”

Watford would be wise to keep the Senegal international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.

Ismaila Sarr ideal fit for Manchester United?

If Ismaila Sarr is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for United.

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

A winger of Sarr’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Manchester United squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Solskjaer’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his attacking department.

It will be interesting to see whether Manchester United will make their move during the summer transfer window.
