It’s no secret that Manchester United are interested in Inter Milan’s fullback. But who isn’t?
Reports in the Italian media claim that Manchester United are targeting Denzel Dumfries.
The Netherlands international was signed by Inter in August 2021 from PSV for a fee of 13.7 million euros. He has a contract until 2025 with the club.
The fullback has banged in five goals and provided seven assists in 41 matches this term on all fronts.
He is considered to be one of the best fullbacks in Netherlands. Dumfries has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 3 goals in 32 senior appearances for the Netherlands national team.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including United.
By the club’s own admission, Denzel Dumfries is Manchester United’s transfer target. Erik ten Hag is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this summer.
The former PSV man is comfortable playing out from the back and given Erik ten Hag’s demands, that would fit in perfectly with his tactics. His versatile nature can help the manager to be more flexible with the formations.
According to the report, “Incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is targeting Inter Milan fullback Denzel Dumfries. Tuttosport says Ten Hag has put Dumfries, 26, “top of his preferences”. Initially Ten Hag was reported to have been eager to bring out-of-contract Ajax star Noussair Mazraoui with him to Old Trafford. But the right-back is on the verge of a move to Bayern Munich, leaving the new gaffer with no choice but to pursue alternative targets. Dumfries has impressed during his debut season at the San Siro following a £12.5million transfer from PSV Eindhoven last summer. And the full-back would now be worth at least £30m in the upcoming transfer window. There could be change in the position at United before the start of the next campaign, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka waiting to speak to Ten Hag to see if he is in the Dutchman’s plans. If not, then Atletico Madrid and Crystal Palace – as well as Roma – are keen on his signature.”

Manchester United will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Inter to the negotiating table. The Red Devils have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.
The Italian giants are preparing to sell their fullback should they receive a massive offer for him.

If Manchester United and Erik ten Hag are seriously considering a fullback, Dumfries could also prove to be a smart option.
Denzel Dumfries will be an ideal choice for Erik ten Hag as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.
United fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.
If Ten Hag sees him as the right man for his side, Manchester United should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
