Manchester United linked with fresh move for Nikola Milenkovic

The defensive department of the Manchester United squad needs quality additions this winter.

It’s claimed by British media that Manchester United are linked with fresh move for Nikola Milenkovic.

The 23-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

Milenkovic has been at Fiorentina since 2017 when he joined from Partizan. The 23-year-old’s contract at Fiorentina is set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The centre-back has featured in 16 matches for Fiorentina this term, netting two goals and providing one assist in all competitions.

The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Serbia. Nikola Milenkovic has also left his mark at the international stage after netting one goal in 26 senior appearances for the Serbia national team.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Adding a centre-back remains United’s top priority this winter and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.

Manchester United have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.

Solskjaer is a long term admirer of Milenkovic and believes he can get the most out of the Serbia international.

The Fiorentina centre-back heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. There is no doubt that Nikola Milenkovic will take United’s defense to a different level.

According to the report, “Manchester United have been in contact with the agent of Nikola Milenkovic as talks over a January move gather pace. The Serbia defender has set his heart on a move to the Premier League and looks likely to leave when the window opens. According to La Nazione, La Viola are resigned to losing their towering centre-half next month. As such, they have stuck a €25m asking price – with no exceptions – on his head. Milenkovic first emerged as a United target in the days of Jose Mourinho. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his scouts have continued to monitor his progress. Milenkovic has made 103 appearances for Fiorentina since arriving from Partizan Belgrade in summer 2017. As well as being an accomplished defender, he has also chipped in with 10 goals in his time. Standing at 6ft 5in, he’s an obvious threat at set pieces. Now with his deal set to expire in 18 months time, Fiorentina look ready to sell.”

If Manchester United can agree on a fee with Fiorentina, the deal should be easy to complete.

The report claims that the Italian side could look to sanction his sale due to a financial crisis.

Nikola Milenkovic ideal fit for Manchester United?

Nevertheless, Nikola Milenkovic stands as an excellent option for Manchester.

Milenkovic is very highly rated in Italy and he could be a superb long term signing for United.

As for the player, Manchester could be a great place for him to grow as a footballer. They will be able to provide him with regular first-team football and he will be coached by a very good manager like Solskjaer.

United should do everything in their power to sign the in-demand Milenkovic, who has all the qualities to be a success at the club.

It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds in the next few weeks.
