Manchester United need to strengthen their defense this winter.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Manchester United are set to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.
The 21-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Serbia international joined Fiorentina from Partizan for a fee in the region of 5.1 million euros in July 2017. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.
Milenkovic made 34 appearances across all competitions for Fiorentina, scoring two goals.
The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Serbia.
As a member of Serbia national football team, Milenkovic won 10 caps.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
The Serbia international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Ole Gunnar Solskjær wants to target in the winter transfer window.
Nikola Milenkovic has the talent to play many roles in defense.
According to Teamtalk (via La Repubblica), “Manchester United are reportedly in talks with the agent of one of Jose Mourinho’s top transfer targets, Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic and are still keen on bringing him to Old Trafford. Mourinho, was sacked by the club last week, went to watch Serbia star Milenkovic in action during an international break earlier this season and came away believing that the 21-year-old was good enough to solve United’s cebntral defensive issues. Italian newspaper La Repubblica, claims that Milenkovic’s agent has been in discussions with United over the Christmas period in order to get a deal done.”
