Lucas Leiva set to undergo Lazio medical ahead of move from Liverpool
Liverpool defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva has emerged as a surprise target for Lazio in the summer transfer window.
Lazio are looking set to land Lucas Leiva after Italian Media (La Lazio siamo noi) revealed that they are in advanced negotiations with Liverpool ahead of a potential move.
The Brazil international has joined Liverpool from Grêmio for a fee in the region of 10 million euros in July 2007. The 30-year-old has a valid contract with Liverpool until June 2018.
The 30-year-old has played 346 times for Liverpool since signing from Grêmio, scoring 7 goals and creating 21 assists in that time.
Lucas Leiva has represented Brazil at Under-20 and Under-23 level, winning 16 caps and scoring 4 goals, before making his senior international debut in October 2006. As a member of Brazil national football team, Lucas Leiva has won 22 caps.
The defensive midfielder’s contract at Liverpool is about to expire in 12 months and a number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, with Lazio showing the most concrete interest in an attempt to lure the player to their team.
Simone Inzaghi wants to sign a new defensive midfielder this summer and Lucas Leiva is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.
