Leeds preparing move for PSV left-back Philipp Max

The defensive department of the Leeds squad needs quality additions this winter.

It’s claimed by British media that Leeds United are preparing move for PSV left-back Philipp Max.

PSV spent 7.7 million euros to sign the Germany international from FC Augsburg in the summer of 2020. The 29-year-old has a valid contract with PSV until June 2024.

In 22 appearances this season, Philipp Max has contributed with two assists. As a member of Germany national football team, Max won three caps.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Leeds.

Jesse Marsch sees Philipp Max as the perfect addition to his defense. He is a firm fan of PSV left-back and Leeds could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

The Whites are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The former Augsburg man can also play as a full-back, offering Marsch a different option should he change his formation at Leeds United.

According to the report, “Leeds United are keen on PSV Eindhoven fullback Philipp Max. Football Insider says Leeds are looking for a new left-back and Max is high on their wish list. Leeds plan to table an offer for the 29-year-old when the transfer window opens after the turn of the year.”

PSV are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the left-back, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.

Good signing for Leeds United?

If Philipp Max is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Leeds United.

He will be an ideal choice for Marsch as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.

How strong that interest is and whether Leeds will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
