Lazio open talks for Maxime Lopez

The midfield department of the Lazio squad needs quality additions this summer.

Reports in the Italian media claim Lazio have opened talks for Maxime Lopez.

The France international was signed by Sassuolo in July 2021 from Marseille for a fee of 2 million euros. The 24-year-old has a contract until 2025 with the club.

This season, Lopez has scored one goal in 26 appearances for Sassuolo.

Lopez has represented France at Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 16 caps.

His performances have seen him become the target of many Serie A clubs including Lazio.

Biancocelesti are looking to sign a midfielder and have identified the 24-year-old as potential transfer target.

The report claims that Lazio manager has extensively scouted Lopez and is considering a move for the midfielder.

Lazio are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

The former Marseille man will offer the Lazio boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

According to the report, “Lazio are moving for Sassuolo midfielder Maxime Lopez. Lazio see Lopez as a replacement for Lucas Leiva, who is set to leave at the end of the season. Lopez has been a revelation with Sassuolo since his arrival from Olympique Marseille. Calciomercato.com says the Biancocelesti have already opened talks for the 24-year-old Frenchman, first contacting Sassuolo a few weeks ago. The Neroverdi value the former Marseille man at around €15-20m.”

The Neroverdi are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the midfielder, but offers of at least 15 million euros may force the club to consider a deal.

If Maxime Lopez is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Lazio.

He has all the skillset required to be a success story at Lazio. Therefore, it makes sense for Sarri to step up his attempts to bring the France midfielder to Serie A side.
