Juventus join the hunt for Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes
central defender Benedikt Howedes has emerged as a surprise target for Juventus in the summer transfer window.
According to the football transfer rumours in Italian Media (Football Italia), Juventus have joined the hunt for Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes.
The Germany international has joined Schalke 04 in 2001. The 29-year-old has a valid contract with Schalke 04 until June 2020.
Benedikt Howedes made 335 appearances across all competitions for Schalke 04, scoring 23 goals and supplying 13 assists in return.
The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best central defenders in Germany.
Benedikt Howedes has represented Germany at Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 42 caps and scoring 3 goals, before making his senior international debut in May 2011. As a member of Germany national football team, Howedes has won 44 caps and has scored two goals.
Benedikt Howedes is high in demand this summer, with him having enjoyed a sublime season for Schalke 04 last term.
Adding a central defender remains Juventus’s top priority this summer and Massimiliano Allegri will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming days.

The central defender can also play as a right-back and left-back, offering Massimiliano Allegri a different option should he change his formation at Juventus.
According to the report in Italian Media, the Italian giants offer contract worth 4 million euros per year on the table for the 29-year-old.

How strong that interest is and whether Juventus will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
Benedikt Howedes would reportedly be interested in a move this summer, but if Juventus do want him, they will have to beat those other interested clubs to his signature.
