Roma edge closer to signing Schalke 04 centre-back Matija Nastasic

centre-back has emerged as a surprise target for Roma in the summer transfer window.

According to the football transfer rumours in Italian Media (Il Messaggero), Roma are edge closer to signing Schalke 04 centre-back Matija Nastasic.

The Serbia international was signed by Schalke 04 in July 2015 from Manchester City for a fee of 9.5 million euros. The 24-year-old has a valid contract with Schalke 04 until June 2019.

Nastasic has played 55 times for Schalke 04 since signing from Manchester City, scoring one goal and creating one assist in that time.

The 24-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Serbia.

Matija Nastasic has represented Serbia at Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 28 caps and scoring 7 goals, before making his senior international debut in February 2012. As a member of Serbia national football team, Matija Nastasic has won 23 caps.

Adding a centre-back remains Roma’s top priority this summer and Roma sporting director Monchi will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming days.

The Serbia international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Monchi wants to target in the summer transfer window.

Roma are desperate to make an impact in this summer transfer window.

The Serbia international will definitely be a good addition to the Roma side, which will be competing in the Champions League next season.

According to the report in Italian Media, Roma are very close to concluding a deal for Schalke 04 centre-back Matija Nastasic for a fee in the region of 20 million euros.
