The defensive department of the Inter squad needs quality additions this summer.
According to multiple reports emanating from Italy, Inter are linked with a move for Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo.
The Dominican Republic international joined Leeds United from Barcelona for a fee in the region of 15 million euros in July 2021. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.
The left-back has found the back of the net on 2 occasions and picked up one assist in 15 matches this season across various competitions.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Inter.
The Italian giants are delving into the transfer market for an experienced left-back and have done well to identify the 26-year-old as a potential target.
Simone Inzaghi is a firm fan of Leeds United left-back and Inter could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.
Someone with Firpo’s skillset will undoubtedly add more quality to Simone Inzaghi‘s defense.
According to the report, “Leeds United will sell Junior Firpo for a modest fee if they are relegated at the end of this season. The Whites are among many teams staring relegation in the face in the Premier League at present. Inter Live states that Firpo is a target for the Italian giants in the summer transfer window. They are hoping that if Leeds go down, Firpo will be available for as little as €10 million. A deal would be much harder to do if Leeds were to stay up under recently installed boss Javi Gracia. They would then demand a higher fee for the 26-year-old, who does want to move on to play European football.”
Euro Football Rumours
Considering they don’t have a big budget, Inter will have to be smart with the signings in the transfer window.
Good signing for Inter?
If Inter are able to negotiate a deal with Leeds United to sign Junior Firpo, it could be a fantastic opportunity for them. Firpo has all the skillset required to be a success story at San Siro Stadium. Therefore, it makes sense for Simone Inzaghi to step up his attempts to bring the Dominican Republic left-back to Serie A side.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Inter come calling for Firpo this summer.
