Empoli midfielder Riccardo Saponara has emerged as a surprise target for Fiorentina ahead of the winter transfer window.
Viola are looking set to land Riccardo Saponara after Italian Media revealed that they are in advanced negotiations with Empoli ahead of a potential move this month.
Riccardo Saponara has joined Empoli from AC Milan in 2015. The 25 year-old has a valid contract with Empoli until June 2018, but AC Milan owed 30 % of the player’s value thanks to a sell-on clause in 2015.
Since his arrival from AC Milan, Saponara has scored 14 goals in 63 games for Empoli, including two goals in 16 games in all competition this season.
Riccardo Saponara has also represented Italy at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 26 caps across all age groups and scoring three goals.
The Italy international has been in fine form for Empoli this season.
Saponara has been a target of Paulo Sousa as the manager looks to bolster his midfield and attacking options for the second part of the season.
Euro Football Rumours were informed that Fiorentina are preparing the offer in the region of 10 million euros for his services.
