Does Chelsea Stand a Chance for the Title?

One of the reasons The Premier League is arguably the most exciting league in the world is because of its unpredictability. Picking out a winning accumulator bet at the weekend with exciting football odds is no easy feat. It feels like there is more than one shock result every weekend.

One of the easier predictions to make use to be the winner of the league each season. At one point there wasn’t even much competition for Manchester United to lift the trophy, but those years feel like a lifetime ago to most Manchester United fans.

Manchester City became a financial powerhouse, Leicester City shocked the football world and won over the neutrals and now Liverpool has regained the title. That’s not even to get started on the developments of Spurs – who at the time of writing sit second in the pile – and Arsenal who are still in it despite what always feels like a soap opera. Oh, and yes, Leicester is in the mix again this season and currently top of the league.

But what about Chelsea? Lampard has probably lost his room for error considering he spent over £200 million on new players this summer.

How Have Chelsea Performed So Far?

At the time of writing, Chelsea do remain in the hunt for the league. Although it is very early to say with only eight games played. They sit in fifth position and only three points behind the leaders. But what is most likely to please Chelsea fans this year is the signings they made have appeared to settle in.

When you spend over £70 million on one player, who is much less of a physical presence than most premiership players, you might be concerned if he doesn’t start well. Just ask Chelsea fans about the signing of Fernando Torres and his goal drought. Luckily Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have started with a bang and that will ease them into the demanding Premier League.

Havertz has both an assist and a goal to his name and he has linked up well with Werner who has registered four goals and one assist. That’s not to forget about the other great talent on Chelsea’s books.

The biggest disappointment so far will unarguably be the dropped two points against West Brom after being 3-0 up. This did show some frailties in the Chelsea team and maybe their mentality.

These worries might be eased with the rumour that Chelsea could be about to snap up a new central defender.

What Are the Bookmakers Thinking?

The bookmakers agree that Chelsea certainly has a shot at winning the title this season. Most football betting odds for them to lift the trophy are at 7/1, 15/2 or 8/1. Some of the best online football odds can be found at Unibet where you can bet on the winner of the Premiership online and never lose your betting slip!

Other contenders according to the bookmakers are Manchester City and Liverpool. Arsenal is the outsider’s choice at a massive 66/1 right now.

How Other Contenders Are Performing?

Without fans in the stadiums, the league has gone completely crazy. The typical contenders who are in the race are Leicester (can they really do it again?), City and Liverpool. Maybe we shouldn’t be so surprised if Leicester do it again with the league’s hottest striker in form.

It looks as though the race for the title was over Manchester United from the get-go, and Arsenal are appearing to drift again. Spurs are near the top but can an unproven Spurs side actually win the league?

One of the reasons why the league is wide open right now is also due to Liverpool’s couple of stumbles and the latest news regarding their collection of injuries. In fact, it now appears that Liverpool’s whole first-team back four are injured, which could cause them to drop crucial points.

Shaping Up to Be Another Close Race

It is so hard to predict who will win the title and that is why the online football odds can be tantalising for anyone with a strong opinion. It is probably going to be a close race yet again which is great news for the neutrals who saw last year’s race end in undramatic style as Liverpool romped home.

It could be Chelsea’s year again.
