Chicago Fire will look to sign Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas

Chicago Fire are planning a move for Iker Casillas.

According to the football transfer rumours in Spanish media, Chicago Fire will look to sign Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

The Spain international joined Porto from Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2015. His contract expires in the summer of 2019.

Since his arrival from Real Madrid, Iker Casillas has conceded 91 goals and provided 63 clean sheets in 129 games for Porto.

As a member of Spain national football team, Casillas won 167 caps.

Veljko Paunović wants to sign a new goalkeeper and Iker Casillas is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He is a known admirer of the goalkeeper and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him next summer.

According to Football Espana (via Diario AS), “MLS side Chicago Fire are monitoring the possibility of signing FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas next summer, according to Diario AS. Now aged 37, the former Real Madrid stopper has re-established himself as number one at the Portuguese giants this season, starting 15 games to date. It is the Spaniard’s fourth season in northern Portugal and has been first-choice for all that time barring a period last season, when Jose Sa – now on loan at Olympiakos – was preferred. That was reportedly due to Casillas falling out with boss Sergio Conceicao but any personal disagreement appears to have now been forgotten about. However, despite the former Spain international signing a one-year contract extension until June 2019 he may leave the Estadio do Dragao at that point to move to North America.”
