Enzo Fernandez is getting closer to Chelsea day by day as transfer talk continues to intensify.
The reports in Brazil suggested that Chelsea are frontrunners to land Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The 21-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
Benfica spent 12 million euros to sign the Argentina international from River Plate in the summer of 2022. He has five years left on his current contract which expires in 2027.
The 21-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Argentina. Fernandez has also left his mark at the international stage after netting one goal in 10 senior appearances for the Argentina national team and winning 2022 World Cup.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
Graham Potter wants to sign a new midfielder and Fernandez is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. The report claims that Potter has extensively scouted Fernandez and is considering a move for the midfielder.
The Blues are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former River Plate man is undoubtedly a talented star who can make an impact in the Premier League. His arrival would give Chelsea some much needed tactical flexibility.
According to the report, “Benfica’s World Cup winning star Enzo Fernandez is the subject of a transfer tug of war. The Argentine youngster is in hot demand as the January transfer window nears. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool want to sign Fernandez, after the 21-year-old impressed in Qatar. Brazilian media outlet UOL Esporte states that Chelsea have taken the lead in the race for his signature. The source states that Chelsea are even willing to pay the player’s buyout clause, which is £106 million. Liverpool are also very keen on Fernandez, but such a sum may be beyond them.”
