Bayer Leverkusen set to sign West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal

The defensive department of the Bayer squad needs quality additions this winter.

It’s claimed by German media that Bayer Leverkusen are set to sign West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal.

The Czech Republic international joined West Ham from Slavia Prague for a fee in the region of six million euros in October 2020. His contract expires in the summer of 2023 (West Ham have option for two more years).

The right-back has featured in 16 matches this term in all competitions.

He is considered to be one of the best right-backs in Czech Republic. Coufal has left his mark at the international stage after netting one goal in 32 senior appearances for the Czech Republic national team.

Vladimir Coufal is one of the more likely players to be offloaded by West Ham this winter and the list of suitors in the Czech Republic international continues to grow.

Xabi Alonso wants to sign a new right-back and Coufal is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.

The report claims that Bayer manager has extensively scouted Coufal and is considering a move for the right-back.

The Black and Reds will have funds to spend in the market and it will be interesting to see how they approach the winter transfer window.

The former Slavia Prague man will add a new dimension to Bayer’s defense. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

According to the report, “Bayer Leverkusen are eyeing West Ham fullback Vladimir Coufal. Bayer are in the market for a new fullback signing and Coufal is on their radar. Sky Deutschland says Bayer are considering Coufal, who is off contract at the end of this season. A delegation from Leverkusen is due to visit London at the end of the week to sound out West Ham about a January deal. Bayer chiefs are keen to bring in Coufal in January rather than wait to sign him for nothing in June.”

Euro Football Rumours

The Black and Reds will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Coufal to join the club.

If Bayer 04 can agree on a fee with West Ham, the deal should be easy to complete.

If Vladimir Coufal is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Bayer Leverkusen.

The Czech Republic international has all the skillset required to be a success story at Leverkusen. Therefore, it makes sense for Alonso to step up his attempts to bring the Czech Republic right-back to Bundesliga side.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit at BayArena.

Bayer 04 fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.
