Atletico Madrid and Chelsea eyeing move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu
Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are linked with a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, according to the football transfer rumours in Turkish Media.
Hakan Calhanoglu has joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen from Hamburger SV for a fee in the region of 14.5 million euros in July 2014. The 23 year-old has a valid contract with Bayer Leverkusen until the June 2019.
Since his arrival from Hamburger SV, Hakan Calhanoglu has scored 28 goals and provided 29 assists in 115 games for Bayer 04 Leverkusen, including seven goals and seven assists in 22 games in all competition this season.
Hakan Calhanoglu has also represented Turkey at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 43 caps across all age groups and scoring eight goals. Since September 2013, Calhanoglu is a member of Turkey national football team, winning 26 caps and scoring eight goals.
The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga.
The Turkey international has been in fantastic form for Bayer 04 Leverkusen this season.
Euro Football Rumours understood that Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is in the process of serving a four-month ban imposed by FIFA for breach of contract. The Turkey international should pay 100,000 euros in compensation to Turkish club Trabzonspor, for whom he agreed to sign as a teenager. Calhanoglu was a youth player at Karlsruher when he was paid 100,000 euros after agreeing to sign for Trabzonspor in the future. But he never joined Trabzonspor, instead extending his deal with Karlsruher.
Hakan Calhanoglu has been target of Diego Simeone and Antonio Conte as the managers look to bolster their midfield options for the next season.
