Former Milan striker Alberto Gilardino has emerged as a surprise target for Crystal Palace.

Alberto Gilardino is interesting Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, according to the football transfer rumours in British Media (Daily Mail).

The Italy international has been without a club since leaving Pescara last season.

The 35-year-old made only 3 appearances across all competitions for Pescara.

Alberto Gilardino has represented Italy at Under-15, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 47 caps and scoring 23 goals, before making his senior international debut in September 2004. As a member of Italy national football team, Alberto Gilardino has won 57 caps and has scored 19 goals.

Roy Hodgson wants to sign a new striker and Alberto Gilardino is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He is a long term admirer of Alberto Gilardino and believes he can get the most out of the Italy international.

According to the report in British Media, Crystal Palace have been offered the chance to sign free agent striker Gilardino. Crystal Palace want a striker as cover following Christian Benteke’s injury. Roy Hodgson’s team have yet to score a Premier League goal following a disastrous start to the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

How strong that interest is and whether Crystal Palace will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
