Who Might Get A Big Transfer Move After The World Cup 2022?

The start of the World Cup is fast approaching, which means that the eyes of the sporting world will be on Qatar. The World Cup is revered as the ultimate shop window, with star players often picked up for huge fees after the competition has ended.

That could certainly be the case at the World Cup this year, as the transfer window opens just under a month after the World Cup final in Qatar. But, which players could be about to get big moves after the competition this year?

Guilherme Arana

Brazil is widely expected to enjoy a solid World Cup later this year, with many bookmakers currently listing them as favorites. Therefore, a number of the unearthed gems on the national side are likely going to be given a platform to shine. One Brazilian that is already attracting interest from clubs around Europe is left-back Guilherme Arana.

The 25-year-old is currently plying his trade in the Brazilian top-flight with Atletico Mineiro and has enjoyed a stellar term this campaign after registering three assists in 16 league fixtures. He has also scored once in the Copa Libertadores.

Arana has already had a taste of football in Europe, as he spent time at Sevilla and Atalanta. Since Brazil does not have many other left-back options right now, besides Telles and Alex Sandro, he might be called up to the World Cup. Tite has already showed that Arana might be an option and his high attacking prowess might put him under the spotlight.

Add to it the fact that Brazil is currently the favorite in the World Cup betting odds and you can see why he might get a huge bump in his market value.

Otavio

Current Transfermarkt Value: €30M

Portugal will have high hopes on their shoulders, as Cristiano Ronaldo plays in his final World Cup. That could ease some of the pressure on the players around him, including Otavio.

The midfielder has been linked with big-money moves away from Porto throughout his career, but the Brazilian-born, that chose to play for Portugal national team, is yet to move outside of the Primeira Liga. He has made over 160 appearances for Porto, which includes playing in the prestigious Champions League.

Forcing his way into the Portuguese side could be his first big issue, as there is no shortage of talent in the position within the national side.

However, given the talent that Otavio has and how hard Portugal fought to get him to represent them, he could have a big role to play. Despite occupying more attacking positions on the pitch, Otavio has consistently been on the podium of the players with more interceptions and ball recoveries in the Primeira Liga.

This shows that he is capable of playing under higher pressure and he could be a perfect fit for any team in the Premier League. No surprise that Liverpool has been linked with him before.

A number of clubs will be looking for midfielders in the winter window, and a strong run of displays at the World Cup could lead to a chance being taken on the 27-year-old.

Current Transfermarkt Value: €45M

With so many clubs around Europe looking for new strikers, it is hard to believe that a chance hasn’t been taken on Canadian international Jonathan David. The 22-year-old has been a revelation during his time in Ligue 1 with Lille and has scored at least ten goals in each of the previous two campaigns. He already looks set to improve on that tally this term, as he has scored twice in the opening two rounds of fixtures.

He also proved his quality in the Champions League last term, as he scored three goals in eight fixtures for the French giants. Canada may not be expected to go far at the World Cup this year, but the pressure on scoring goals to put up a fight will be resting on the shoulders of J. David.

Jarrod Bowen

Current Transfermarkt Value: €42M

There is no shortage of quality in the final third for England coming into the 2022 World Cup, but one player that has certainly played his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans over the previous 12 months has been Jarrod Bowen. The 25-year-old enjoyed his best year to date in the Premier League last term for West Ham United, as he scored 12 goals and made ten assists in 36 appearances.

The Hammers were braced for bids this summer, with both Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly interested. However, no move for the former Hull City attacker materialised. It could be hard to ignore the winger if he enjoys a solid World Cup for the Three Lions, and it could also see West Ham benefit, as his market value could be trebled.

Lukas Nmecha

Current Transfermarkt Value: €12M

Lukas Nmecha was brought through the academy at Manchester City, but like other stars before him, he wasn’t given a fair chance at the club. He spent loans away from the club at Middlesbrough and Anderlecht, before signing a permanent deal for Wolfsburg last year.

He has been a regular in the German setup over the past 12 months and has made six appearances so far.

However, his performances for his club side could lead to him playing a more important role over the next six months, especially with the lack of out-and-out number nines within the German set-up. Nmecha scored eight goals in 25 Bundesliga games last season and has already started the new campaign in strong form with one goal in two games.

The potential is still there, and a strong showing at the World Cup could see one of Europe’s elite take a chance on the Wolfsburg frontman.
