West Ham United in pole position to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi

The attacking department of the West Ham squad needs quality additions this winter.

According to multiple reports emanating from England, West Ham United are in pole position to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi.

The 29-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

The Ukraine international was signed by Atalanta in July 2019 from Genk for a fee of 13.6 million euros. He has a valid contract until June 2023.

He has featured in 14 matches for Atalanta this term, netting one goal and providing two assists in all competitions.

The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Ukraine. His record for Ukraine is impressive. Malinovskyi has scored seven goals in 51 matches for Ukraine at senior level.

There has been no movement on Malinovskyi agreeing a contract extension at Atalanta, and he will be on the radar of many English clubs during the winter.

David Moyes is eager to add a midfielder to the squad. He wants an experienced player that can be a leader on and off the pitch for him. Moyes is a firm fan of Atalanta midfielder and West Ham could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

The Hammers are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The former Genk man has got the skillset to give David Moyes more options in the final third. He will add more quality to West Ham’s midfield.

According to the report, “West Ham and Tottenham are reportedly keen on Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi. The 29-year-old Ukrainian is said to be eager for a new challenge. Malinovskyi would rather a move to Tottenham to work with Antonio Conte, according to Calciomercato. But Spurs are only reported to be willing to bring the midfielder to the club on loan. However, Atalanta will not consider a temporary deal. That seemingly leaves West Ham in pole position to swoop for the 51-cap international.”

The Hammers will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Malinovskyi to join the club. If West Ham can agree on a fee with Atalanta, the deal should be easy to complete.

Atalanta will be ready to part ways with the midfielder should the right offer arrives.

Good signing for West Ham United?

If West Ham and David Moyes are seriously considering a midfielder, Malinovskyi could also prove to be a smart option.

A midfielder of Malinovskyi’s ceiling will be a massive addition to West Ham squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Moyes’ starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his midfield department.

How strong that interest is and whether West Ham will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
