West Ham linked with a loan move for Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire

The defensive department of the West Ham squad needs quality additions this winter.

As per British media, West Ham United are linked with a loan move for Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire.

The 29-year-old has been with Manchester United since 2019, having signed for the club from Leicester City for 87 million euros. His current deal expires in 2025.

The centre-back has featured in 15 matches for Manchester United this term in all competitions.

He is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in England. Maguire has also left his mark at the international stage after netting seven goals in 53 senior appearances for the England national team.

The Manchester United manager does not see him in his plans and would be open to letting him leave on loan.

David Moyes is eager to add a centre-back to the squad. He wants an experienced player that can be a leader on and off the pitch for him.

The former Leicester City man heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

According to the report, “West Ham United are eyeing a loan move for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire. The centre-back has fallen out of favour with Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag, making only four league starts this season. The Mirror reports United are prepared to make a huge loss on the defender they paid Leicester £85million for in 2019. And it is claimed West Ham are ready to make a loan move for the unsettled England international. Moyes once looked at signing Maguire for just £4m from Sheffield United while he was Old Trafford manager in 2013 but a possible move never took off. United have won their last five league matches to rise to fourth in the table. But Maguire has played little part, causing question marks over his future in Manchester.”

The Hammers will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Maguire to join the club. It is claimed that Manchester United are open to letting Maguire go.

Good signing for West Ham United?

Harry Maguire could offer a smart solution if West Ham can manage to get him on loan. If the deal works out and the 29-year-old plays well, a permanent deal could be pursued and if he fails to perform, Maguire can return to Manchester.

A centre-back of Maguire’s ceiling will be a massive addition to West Ham squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of David Moyes’ starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his defensive department.

It will be interesting to see if West Ham make their move for the 29-year-old in the coming days.
