West Ham join the hunt for Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu

The defensive department of the West Ham squad needs quality additions this summer.

British source claim that West Ham have joined the hunt for Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu.

The 21-year-old defender has played all his life at Real Valladolid. He has made his way through the youth system at the Spanish club and made his senior debut in 2019. He has two years left on his current contract which expires in 2022.

In 34 appearances for Real Valladolid, Salisu has managed to score one goal, and create one goal for his teammates.

The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Ghana.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including West Ham.

David Moyes is looking to shore up his defensive options and Real Valladolid’s Mohammed Salisu happens to be a target.

The Ghana international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Moyes wants to target in the summer transfer window.

West Ham are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

Mohammed Salisu has the talent to play many roles in defense.

According to the report, “West Ham United have joined the interest in Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu. The Daily Mail says the 21-year-old centre-back has drawn enquiries from Southampton, Everton and to a lesser degree Manchester United. French side Rennes have been pushing to sign him but the Ghana-born Salisu is eager to move to the Premier League. He has a £10.8million release clause which makes him attractive to West Ham who are keen to bolster their defence but are unsure of their budget at this stage. Southampton are understood to have made an offer below the release clause while Everton have Salisu in mind as an option alongside Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes and Jean Clair Todibo of Barcelona.”

If West Ham can agree on a fee with Real Valladolid, the deal should be easy to complete.

Good signing for West Ham?

West Ham in particular need to sort out a defender for the next season and the 21-year-old could be a solid signing for them.

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

If he turns out to be a star like many expect, it could be one of the club’s smartest transfers.

How strong that interest is and whether West Ham will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
