Watford keen to land Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas

Barry Douglas is getting closer to Watford day by day as transfer talk continues to intensify.

According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Watford are keen to land Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas.

The 31-year-old has been with Leeds since 2018, having signed for the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers for 3.4 million euros. The Scotland international’s current deal expires in 2021.

In 44 appearances for Leeds United, Douglas has managed to create 5 goals for his teammates.

The 31-year-old is considered to be one of the best left-backs in Scotland.

The left-back has just 9 months remaining on his contract and Leeds may consider a deal in this transfer window to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.

By the club’s own admission, Leeds left-back Barry Douglas is Watford’s transfer target.

The report claims that Watford manager Vladimir Ivić has extensively scouted Douglas and is considering a move for the left-back.

Watford are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

Douglas is often quick to scan the danger and is not shy of getting stuck in with some well-timed tackles to help secure possession back for his side. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

According to the report, “Going up with a 10-point buffer on their nearest rivals showed just how dominant Leeds were last term, and for that the first team squad deserve credit. Marcelo Bielsa was clearly the figure who pulled everything together, but at the end of the day it’s the players who are responsible for getting result on the pitch. The Argentine has decided to keep the faith with most of those players as they take to life in the Premier League, but that hasn’t stopped them from adding some astute signings. But with a handful of new players coming through the door at Elland Road, it has left some feeling somewhat vulnerable. One of those players is Barry Douglas. The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order after suffering a series of injuries. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it seems that his days at the club could be numbered. Watford are reportedly keen on a move before the EFL deadline on October 16 and according to former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson it seems inevitable that Douglas will move on.”

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Watford.

It will be interesting to see if Watford can beat their rivals to the left-back’s signature.
