Tottenham poised to land Gian Marco Ferrari

Tottenham are reportedly keeping a close eye on many centre-backs across the Europe.

According to a report from Teamtalk, Tottenham are poised to land Sassuolo centre-back Gian Marco Ferrari.

Sassuolo spent 4 million euros to sign the Italy international from Crotone in the summer of 2016. The 28-year-old has three years left on his current contract which expires in 2023.

The centre-back has provided two assists in nine matches for Sassuolo this term on all fronts.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

The Spurs are looking to sign a centre-back and have identified the 28-year-old as potential transfer target.

The Tottenham manager has been impressed by his performances this season and could make a move this winter.

The Sassuolo centre-back heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. His arrival would give Tottenham some much needed tactical flexibility.

According to the report, “Tottenham are reportedly monitoring Sassuolo centre-back Gian Marco Ferrari, with a view to making a bid in January. Jose Mourinho currently has five centre-back options to call on, with Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier his first choice, although the former is currently on the sidelines. Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are also on Tottenham’s books, with the latter making his first Premier League start in the goalless draw with Chelsea. Rodon performed well at Stamford Bridge, despite a couple of errors that could have led to goals, but is he still inexperienced at top level. Former record signing Sanchez has struggled with inconsistency, while Tanganga has had his fair share of injury issues. To that end, sources have told 90min that Mourinho wants to upgrade his options in defence, with a left-footed replacement for Jan Vertonghen eyed. The report adds that while Daniel Levy is willing to sanction a deal, Spurs do not want to spend more than £15m. With that budget in mind, the north London side have targeted 28-year-old Ferrari as a potential option.”

If Tottenham can agree on a fee with Sassuolo, the deal should be easy to complete.

Gian Marco Ferrari ideal fit for Tottenham?

If Gian Marco Ferrari is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for the Spurs.

All in all, Ferrari will be an ideal choice for Jose Mourinho as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Tottenham.

The ball is in Tottenham’s court and they need to take a decision on signing Ferrari.
