Tottenham leading the race for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez

Tottenham are reportedly keeping a close eye on many strikers across the Europe.

According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Tottenham are leading the race for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.

The 22-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

The Uruguay international was signed by Celta Vigo in July 2017 from Defensor Sporting for a fee of 4 million euros. The 22-year-old has a contract until 2022 with the club.

Gomez has scored 13 goals and assisted 5 more across all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Uruguay.

As a member of Uruguay national football team, Maxi Gomez won 11 caps and he scored one goal.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Mauricio Pochettino will reportedly be handed a huge transfer kitty this summer and the Celta Vigo striker is thought to be among the manager’s priorities.

Tottenham are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

According to the report, “Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Maxi Gomez. Spurs view the Celta Vigo striker as the ideal back-up for Harry Kane, according to The Mirror. West Ham United came close to signing the Uruguayan in January and remain interested in acquiring his signature. The Hammers are waiting to see if Arnautovic leaves for China before pursuing a deal. Gomez has a release clause of £43m in his Celta contract.”
