Tottenham frontrunners to land Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure

It’s no secret that Tottenham are interested in Cheick Doucoure. But who isn’t?

According to multiple reports emanating from England, Tottenham are frontrunners to land Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure.

The Mali international joined Lens from Real Bamako in 2018. His contract expires in the summer of 2024.

He has featured in 23 matches this term, providing three assists in all competitions.

The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Mali. As a member of Mali national football team, Doucoure won 8 caps.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Antonio Conte wants to sign a new midfielder and Doucoure is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.

The Spurs are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

Doucoure will offer the Tottenham boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

According to the report,”Jeunes Footeux in France states that Spurs are leading the chase to sign Doucoure. The Lens man enjoyed a solid AFCON with his nation Mali, with his performances catching the eyes of Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach. Indeed, the latter wants Doucoure as a replacement for Denis Zakaria. He was allowed to leave for Juventus, who in turn replaced Bentancur for the Bianconeri. However, the report claims it is Spurs leading the chase with Fabio Paratici already working on a deal. They state ‘Tottenham have been seduced by the performances of Doucoure’ with a summer deal on the cards. Furthermore, Lens are seeking a fee of around €15m – €20m (£12.6m – £16.8m) which would not break the bank for Spurs.”

If Tottenham can agree on a fee with Lens, the deal should be easy to complete.

The French club are preparing to sell their midfielder should they receive right offer for him.

Good signing for Tottenham?

The 22-year-old Mali international could be a very good squad player for Antonio Conte over the next few years. He is at the peak of his career right now and Conte could bring out the best in him.

Tottenham fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.

How strong that interest is and whether Tottenham will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
