Stoke City winger Bojan Krkic has joined Mainz on loan until the end of the season.
“1. FSV Mainz 05 are pleased to announce the signing of Bojan Krkic Pérez. The 26 year old, who came through Barcelona’s “la Masia” academy, has joined the Zerofivers on a loan deal from English club Stoke City. Bojan made his professional debut in 2007 for Barcelona. By 2011, he had already made 164 appearances for the Catalan club in La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, scoring 41 goals and racking up 17 assists. He also won Europe’s biggest club competition with Barca in 2009 and 2011. The Spaniard then moved to a couple of Italian sides in AS Roma (2011/2012 season) and AC Milan (2012/2013), before signing for Ajax (2013/2014) and then Stoke City in 2014. He featured 52 times for the Premier League outfit, netting 14 goals. “ said in a statement of 1. FSV Mainz 05 official website.
“Bojan is a player with an outstanding career path who wants to fully commit himself to the upcoming six months with us in the Bundesliga. The sporting and economic conditions were good enough to excite him and win him over. Bojan will fill the current gap we have in our attack in his own way. We’re happy about the quality he brings to our squad,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.
Coach Martin Schmidt had this to say about the new signing: “In Bojan we’ve acquired a player who is dangerous in front of goal and creative. I’m looking forward to the challenge of integrating him into the team over the coming months.”
Bojan said: “For me it’s an honour that Mainz have given me this opportunity to prove myself at club in another top European league. I’m looking forward to seeing the team as well as the fans and being able to help the Zerofivers on the pitch.”
