Sporting linked with Real Madrid fullback Fabio Coentrao

According to the football transfer rumours in Spanish Media, Sporting CP are linked with Real Madrid fullback Fabio Coentrao.

Fabio Coentrao has joined Real Madrid from Benfica for a fee in the region of 30 million euros in July 2011. The 29 year-old has a valid contract with Real Madrid until June 2019.

Since his arrival from Benfica, Fabio Coentrao has scored one goal and provided 11 assists in 106 games for Real Madrid, including only one assist in six games in all competitions this season.

The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best fullbacks in Portugal.

Fabio Coentrao has represented Portugal at Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 18 caps and scoring 15 goals, before making his senior international debut in November 2009. As a member of Portugal national football team, Coentrao has won only 51 caps and has scored five goals.

The Portugal international is a player who has impressed many European clubs in the last few seasons, and it is understood that Sporting CP manager Jorge Jesus would prefer playing him as a left-back.

Euro Football Rumours understood that Sporting CP are in talks with Coentrao’s agent Jorge Mendes regarding his free transfer in the summer transfer window.

Fabio Coentrao’s former club Benfica are apparently trailing Sporting CP in the pursuit of Real Madrid fullback.
