Adding a defender remains Roma’s top priority this winter and Monchi will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.

The report claims that Monchi has extensively scouted Daniele Rugani and is considering a move for the defender.

Roma are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

According to Calciomercato, “Calciomercato exclusively understand that Serie A giants Roma are studying a possible operation for Chelsea target and Juventus defender Daniele Rugani. The Italian was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this past summer, but a move could not materialize as Juventus refused to sell him after the departure of Mattia Caldara to AC Milan. We exclusively understand that Roma are trying to breach the wall of no transfers between Roma and Juventus by attempting to sign Rugani and they’re drawing up plans to sign the defender.”

Juventus would be wise to keep the Italy international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.

Signing the 24-year-old would be a masterstroke from Monchi.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Roma.

Roma fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club this winter.
