Roma join the hunt for Atalanta right-back Timothy Castagne

AS Roma are reportedly one of many clubs keeping tabs on Belgium international Timothy Castagne.

According to the football transfer rumours in Italian media, Roma have joined the hunt for Atalanta right-back Timothy Castagne.

The Belgium international was signed by Atalanta in July 2017 from Genk for a fee of 6 million euros. The 23-year-old has a contract until 2020 with the club.

Castagne made 54 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta, scoring 4 goals and supplying 8 assists in return.

The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best right-backs in Belgium.

As a member of Belgium national football team, Castagne won 4 caps.

The Belgium international has impressed in Serie A this season and is starting to attract the interest of bigger clubs.

AS Roma have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential. They are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

According to Calciomercato, “Roma are ready to challenge AC Milan for the signature of Atalanta’s Belgian full-back, Timothy Castagne. In recent weeks, there have been a lot of rumours regarding the Rossoneri’s interest in the player, but now the Giallorossi have joined the race as well. Rai Sport reports that the two sides are interested in the player, and thus there could be a bidding war between the two in the summer.”

Atalanta are reluctant to let Castagne go, but a big enough bid could persuade them to sell.

Undoubtedly he would be a fantastic recruit for AS Roma.
