Real Madrid tracking Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has emerged as a surprise target for Real Madrid in the winter transfer window.

Real Madrid are tracking Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa, according to the football transfer rumours in Spanish Media (Marca).

The Spain international has joined Athletic Bilbao from Bilbao Athletic in July 2014. The 22-year-old has a valid contract with Athletic Bilbao until June 2018.

Since his arrival, Kepa Arrizabalaga has conceded 23 goals and provided 10 clean sheets in 26 games for Athletic Bilbao, including conceded one goals and provided two clean sheets in three games in all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best young goalkeepers in Spain.

Kepa has represented Spain at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 30 caps.

The goalkeeper’s contract at Athletic Bilbao is about to expire and a number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, with Real Madrid showing the most concrete interest in an attempt to lure the player to their team.

Zinedine Zidane wants to sign a new goalkeeper and Kepa Arrizabalaga is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.

The report claims that Real Madrid manager has extensively scouted Kepa Arrizabalaga and is considering a move for the goalkeeper.

Real Madrid will be desperate to make an impact in winter transfer window.

According to the report in Spanish Media, Real Madrid might be looking to the future and will need to turn their attention to a younger goalkeeper in the coming seasons and Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper could be the ideal candidate, especially on a free transfer.

How strong that interest is and whether Real Madrid will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
