Nottingham Forest preparing move for Connor Goldson

The defensive department of Forest squad needs quality additions this summer.

According to multiple reports emanating from England, Nottingham Forest are preparing move for Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson.

The England international joined Rangers from Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee in the region of 3.4 million euros in July 2018. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The centre-back has featured in 60 matches last term, netting 4 goals and providing 4 assists in all competitions.

Given that his contract is expiring soon and he has not yet signed an extension, the rumors have only heated up in recent weeks.

His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest have earmarked Rangers centre-back as their target, with Steve Cooper being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player. Cooper has been impressed by his performances last season and could make a move this summer.

Forest are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion man heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

According to the report, “Nottingham Forest are targeting Rangers defender Connor Goldson. The Sun says the English Premier League new boys are ready to make their move for the 29-year-old following their 1-0 play-off win over Huddersfield on Sunday at Wembley. Forest boss Steve Cooper is a huge fan of Goldson. Rangers haven’t given up hope of convincing the stopper to extend his four-year stay in Glasgow, but the Dutch boss admitted earlier this month that there was only a ‘small chance’ Goldson would stay in Scotland. Now City Ground boss Cooper hopes the lure of featuring in the English top flight, which could earn the club £200million, will convince the Gers hero to head back south. Goldson featured three times in the Premier League in his final season with Brighton before swapping the south coast for Govan under then boss Steven Gerrard in 2018. He has been an almost ever-present since and made himself a fans’ favourite as he helped the club win the league for the first time in a decade.”

Forest will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Goldson to join the club.

Good signing for Nottingham Forest?

If Goldson is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Nottingham Forest.

A centre-back of Connor Goldson’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Forest squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Cooper’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his defensive department.

If Cooper sees him as the right man for his side, Forest should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
