The upcoming winter will see Newcastle improving their attacking department.
It’s claimed by Spanish media that Newcastle United will look to sign Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.
Atletico Madrid spent 27 million euros to sign the Belgium international from Dalian Professional in the summer of 2020. He has a valid contract with Atletico until June 2024.
The winger has banged in 2 goals and provided 2 assists in 18 matches this term on all fronts.
The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best wingers in Belgium. Carrasco has scored 8 goals in 59 matches for Belgium at senior level.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Newcastle.
Eddie Howe is eager to add a winger to the squad. He wants an experienced player that can be a leader on and off the pitch for him.
The Belgium international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of winger Howe wants to target in the winter transfer window.
Newcastle United are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Dalian Professional man will add a new dimension to Newcastle’s attack.
According to the report, “Newcastle are eyeing Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco. The Toon are in the market for a topline wide player ahead of the January market. And on their radar is Carrasco, reports Mundo Deportivo. With a deal to 2024, Newcastle are planning a January offer for the 29 year-old. Newcastle made an attempt for Carrasco last summer, though Atletico refused to do business.”
Euro Football Rumours
The Magpies will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Atletico to the negotiating table. They have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.
Atletico Madrid would be wise to keep the Belgium international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.
Good signing for Newcastle United?
If Newcastle and Howe are seriously considering a winger, Carrasco could also prove to be a smart option.
The Belgium international could be a very good squad player for Eddie Howe over the next few years. He is at the peak of his career right now and Howe could bring out the best in him.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit at St. James’ Park.
How strong that interest is and whether Newcastle will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
