Newcastle United target Manchester United star Jesse Lingard
As the winter transfer window comes closer and closer Newcastle are being linked with more and more potential transfers.
The latest reports in England suggest that Newcastle United are targeting Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard.
He has been subject to interest from various Premier League clubs.
The 29-year-old’s contract at Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
In 222 appearances for Manchester United, Lingard has managed to score 35 goals, and create 21 goals for his teammates.
The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best wingers in England.
His record for England is also impressive. Lingard has scored 6 goals in 32 matches for England at senior level.
He is set to be a man in demand in the winter transfer window, with a host of clubs queuing up to pursue his signature.
By the club’s own admission, Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard is Newcastle United’s number one transfer target.
The England international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of attacking player Howe wants to target in the winter transfer window.
The Magpies are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
There is no doubt that Lingard will take Newcastle’s attack to a different level. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report, “Newcastle United are determined to land Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard. The Magpies are in desperate need of reinforcements and have made Lingard their “top priority”, says The Times. However, after a stellar loan spell at West Ham last season, the England international is believed to be on the Hammers radar once again and could be tempted to try and re-sign the midfielder in January. Lingard’s contract is set to expire at Old Trafford this upcoming summer and could move for a cut-price fee in January after mainly featuring on the bench for the Red Devils. Finances will be no issue to Newcastle United given their recent Saudi-led takeover, however their current Premier League standing could ultimately act as a decider for the majority of players.”
