Djed Spence is getting closer to Newcastle day by day as transfer talk continues to intensify.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Newcastle United are eyeing move for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence.
The 20-year-old joined Middlesbrough from Fulham on a free transfer in July 2018. His contract expires in the summer of 2023.
The right-back has featured in 10 matches for Middlesbrough this term, netting one goal in all competitions.
His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Newcastle United.
The Magpies are looking to sign a right-back and have identified the 20-year-old as potential transfer target.
Steve Bruce is a long term admirer of Spence and believes he can get the most out of the England international.
His arrival would give Newcastle United some much needed tactical flexibility.
According to the report, “Newcastle United are pondering a move for Middlesbrough full-back Djed Spence. The club are focusing on pursuing younger players who can have a higher sell on value in a few years. That is owner Mike Ashley’s way of supporting the manager, while ensuring the club is in a good financial position, according to the Northern Echo. The 20-year-old impressed with the Boro first team last season, and has continued his good form under Neil Warnock this term. A January move is very likely, but Boro would want a large fee to convince them to release an important player midway through the season.”

If Newcastle can tie up a cheap deal for the player, it may not be a bad signing by any means.
Good signing for Newcastle United?
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
This could be a very interesting move, Spence has lots of potential and Newcastle could be the perfect place for him to develop as a player.
Signing the right-back could be a good decision as he could improve Bruce’s defensive options.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Newcastle come calling for Spence this winter.
