Newcastle tipped to sign Leicester City defender Wes Morgan

defender Wes Morgan has emerged as a surprise target for Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the football transfer rumours in British Media, Newcastle United are tipped to sign Leicester City defender Wes Morgan.

The Jamaica international was signed by Leicester City in January 2012 from Nottingham Forest for a fee of 1.1 million euros. The 33-year-old has a valid contract with Leicester City until June 2019.

Since his arrival from Nottingham Forest, Wes Morgan has scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 236 games for Leicester City, including three goals and provided one assist in 40 games in all competitions this season.

The 33-year-old is considered to be one of the best defenders in Jamaica.

As a member of Jamaica national football team, Wes Morgan has won 30 caps.

Euro Football Rumours understood that the Jamaica international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Rafa Benitez wants to target in the summer transfer window.

Wes Morgan is a player who has impressed many European clubs in the last few seasons, and it is understood that Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez would prefer playing him as a central defender.

How strong that interest is and whether Newcastle United will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
