The defensive department of the Newcastle squad needs quality additions this summer.
It’s claimed by British media that Newcastle United are poised to land Tottenham centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers.
In October 2020, Carter-Vickers was sent to Bournemouth on a season-long loan. The centre-back registered one goal and one assist in 26 appearances across all competitions last season.
The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in United States. Carter-Vickers has earned 8 senior caps for the United States national team but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.
His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Newcastle United.
Carter-Vickers appears to be among Steve Bruce’s top choices to reinforce his centre-back options. Bruce is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this summer.
The Tottenham centre-back heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report, “Newcastle call Tottenham about defender Carter-Vickers. Newcastle United are showing a serious willingness to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham. According to 90Min, the youngster caught the Magpies’ eye during a loan spell at Bournemouth last season. Carter-Vickers has 12 months remaining on his contract with Spurs, but he has been involved in their pre-season matches so far this term. The 23-year-old centre-back is wanted by other clubs, including Celtic in Scotland and several MLS sides in the United States. The American, however, wants to remain in Europe for the foreseeable future.”

If Newcastle can tie up a cheap deal for the player, it may not be a bad signing by any means.
The Spurs are preparing to sell their centre-back should they receive right offer for him.
Good signing for Newcastle United?
If Carter-Vickers is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Newcastle. The 23-year-old is a promising young centre-back and could be a good addition to Newcastle’s squad.
If Steve Bruce sees him as the right man for his side, the Magpies should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
