Napoli linked with fresh move for Luca Pellegrini

The defensive department of the Napoli squad needs quality additions this summer.

The reports in Italy suggested that Napoli are linked with fresh move for Luca Pellegrini.

The 21-year-old has been subject to interest from various Serie A clubs.

The Italy international joined Juventus from Roma for a fee in the region of 22 million euros in July 2019. His contract expires in the summer of 2023. In August 2019, Pellegrini was sent to Cagliari on a season-long loan.

The left-back has provided six assists in 24 matches for Cagliari this term on all fronts.

The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Italy.

Luca Pellegrini has represented Italy at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 38 caps.

The Italy international is set to be a man in demand in the summer transfer window, with a host of clubs queuing up to pursue his signature.

Adding a left-back remains Napoli’s top priority this summer and Gennaro Gattuso will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming days.

Napoli have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.

The Italy international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Gattuso wants to target in the summer transfer window.

The left-back can also play as a full-back, offering Gattuso a different option should he change his formation at Napoli.

According to the report, “Agent Mino Raiola will reportedly meet with Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici regarding the future of full-back Luca Pellegrini, who could be on his way to Napoli. Pellegrini, signed from Roma last summer and immediately loaned back out to Cagliari, has, according to Calciomercato.com, decided he wants to play regularly next season and could push for a move unless he receives guarantees at the Allianz Stadium. The outlet claims Napoli are interested in the 21-year-old, who must fight Brazilian Alex Sandro for a place in the starting line-up at the Bianconeri. Raiola will reportedly meet with Paratici to discuss the players future in Turin and the Roman defender could be included in a swap deal to bring Arek Milik in the opposite direction. If Mattia De Sciglio leaves Juventus this summer, Pellegrini could stay at the club but the report claims a move can’t been ruled out.”

If Napoli can agree on a fee with Juventus, the deal should be easy to complete.

Good signing for Napoli?

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

As for the player, Napoli could be a great place for him to grow as a footballer. They will be able to provide him with regular first-team football and he will be coached by a very good manager like Gennaro Gattuso.

Signing the left-back could be a good decision as he could improve Gattuso’s defensive options.

Napoli fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.

It will be interesting to see where the player ends up this summer.
