Maurizio Sarri wants to sign a new goalkeeper and Bernd Leno is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.

Napoli have built a reputation for recruiting talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.

The Partenopei have kept an eye on Bernd Leno for the last 12 months and they are impressed with the goalkeeper’s performances.

According to Calciomercato, “Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina confirmed on Sunday that he would be leaving the club in the summer. The search is now on to find his successor and latest reports suggest that the Partenopei will look to the Bundesliga to try a replacement. The player at the centre of the speculation is Bayer Leverkusen custodian Bernd Leno. Calciomercato.com understands that contact has been made between the two parties but that the 25-year-old will only consider a move to Italy if he is guaranteed to be the first choice at the Stadio San Paolo.”

Bayer Leverkusen appear to be adamant that no key players will be sold this summer, but Napoli are reportedly ready to tempt them with a massive offer for Bernd Leno.

Signing the 25-year-old in the summer transfer window would be a masterstroke from Maurizio Sarri.

How strong that interest is and whether Napoli will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
