The 28-year-old is considered to be one of the best right-backs in Ireland.

The Wolves right-back has also represented the Ireland at various youth levels before going on to secure 9 senior caps for his country thus far.

Matt Doherty will be high in demand this summer, with him having enjoyed a sublime season for Wolves this term.

The Spurs are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

The Ireland international will offer the Tottenham boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

According to the report, “Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Matt Doherty from Wolves. The Portuguese wants to improve his team’s defence, especially after losing Jan Vertonghen this summer. And says Mourinho is a huge admirer of Doherty. But his countryman, Nuno Espirito Santo, who is in charge at Wolves, will not want to lose his player either. It may take a big bid to secure the defender. Although, Doherty may be available as Wolves look to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal, who can also play right wing-back.”

Tottenham might have to pay over the odds to sign the right-back.

Good signing for Tottenham?

Tottenham must improve their defensive options and the signing of Matt Doherty would be a step in the right direction.

The Spurs in particular need to sort out a right-back for the next season and the 28-year-old could be a solid signing for them.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Tottenham.

How strong that interest is and whether Tottenham will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
