It’s claimed by British media that Manchester United are tipped to sign Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez.
The 24-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
Ajax spent 7 million euros to sign the Argentina international from Defensa y Justicia in the summer of 2019. He has three years left on his current contract which expires in 2025.
The centre-back has featured in 37 matches this term, netting one goal and providing four assists in all competitions.
He has the potential to become a top-class centre-back. Lisandro Martinez has earned six senior caps for the Argentina national team but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
Erik ten Hag is looking to shore up his defensive options and Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez happens to be a target. The Argentina international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Ten Hag wants to target in the summer transfer window.
The English giants are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Defensa y Justicia man heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third.

Martinez is adept at playing out from the back and suited to Ten Hag’s ‘one-v-one defensive tactic’. The six-cap star has three seasons left on his Ajax deal and is valued at about £25million.”

If Manchester United and Erik ten Hag are seriously considering a centre-back, Martinez could also prove to be a smart option.
The 24-year-old Argentina international could be a very good squad player for Erik ten Hag over the next few years. He is at the peak of his career right now and Ten Hag could bring out the best in him.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to pay the asking price for Martinez.
